A divine intervention

Dear All,

yesterday i went to St Jude's to visit a terminally-ill patient with sister Vivien from our cell group.  the patient is her colleague's husband.  they showed me some reports and stuff, and i realized that it's end stage rectal cancer with metastasis to the left lung and the adrenal glands.  the wife asked for my opinion.  i shook my head and said, there is not much they can do.  she expressed understanding and being realistic, and she also wanted to do everything possible to prolong his life.  i let her know that the doctors cannot do anything any more, but we can still ask the best doctor to help, and he is Jesus Christ.  later the primary care physician came to the room too.  he is actually a good friend of mine who went to college and med school with me, a very good Christian.  he filled me in with more details--there is actually a peri-rectal abscess, but surgeons cannot operate on it because of the overall condition.  they can only treat with IV abx.

the patient was a lot more awake yesterday than ever before for this admission, and he agreed for us to pray for him.  so we did.  i prayed for God to reduce the metastatic tumors in the left lung and in the adrenals.  i also prayed for God to rid the peri-rectal abscess, which is not operable.  before we left yesterday, i asked for permission to bring some friends from church over today.  and the wife readily agreed.  she was very thankful that still so many people, including strangers, care about them.

today at church when i saw Pastor Kevin Liu, i explained to him the situation that the patient may not live for another week, and he happily agreed to go visit this gentleman this afternoon.  so we did, along with Michelle and Daniel.  to my happy surprise, upon our arrival, we found there were two guests there already, a married couple, both Christians.  and they were trying to encourage them too.  and surprisingly, the patient looked much better today than yesterday!  he was more awake today, able to converse.  we found out that their other friends led him to pray the conversion prayer couple days ago, but at that time he was not with it, not that awake at all.  so Pastor Liu step by step explained to him about sin, about confessing our sin, about accepting Christ.  when asked if willing to pray to confess his sin, he nodded his head.  so Pastor Liu prayed out loud, leading him to confess all his sin.  and at the end, the patient said "amen" too after Pastor Liu, so loud and so firm.

then the patient complained about some abdominal pain.  after we prayed for God to take away the pain, he said he felt much better.  then Pastor Liu explained the meaning of baptism and asked if he wanted to be baptized, he nodded his head again.  he was then baptized into the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  so touching.

we were very cautious not to be pushy.  but the patient was very firm in accepting Christ.  even i was encouraged to see his faith.  praise God.
